I got completely derailed this week.

I was all gung-ho on the weekend and on Monday (which explains the laundry, the sheets, and the buckets), but Monday night my 6 year old got sick. Which meant of course that I was up for hours in the middle of the night. Tuesday, I felt a little off, Wednesday I had a sore throat and a head cold, and by Thursday I told the hubs I couldn’t get out of bed. He promptly brought me tea and lemon pound cake and gave me the day to hole up in bed.

Just when a gal thinks she’s got it together, snot intervenes.

Here is my pitiful recap:

Personal:

Read the bible every day

Read Event Planning: The Ultimate Guide To Successful Meetings, Corporate Events, Fundraising Galas, Conferences, Conventions, Incentives and Other Special Events (read through the parts that are relevant to what I’m doing)

Shower every other day (I can’t wash my hair everyday because it’s crazy hair. Also, I hate showering.) Yea, this didn’t happen, I was laid up in bed.

Drink coffee black – I’ve decided to cut out cream and suger instead of coffee – one cup in the morning if I get up early I was sick and indulged in three mochas. But before I got sick I had coffee with just a pinch of almond milk.

Get up at 6am (Lord, help me) Monday through Friday – I’m setting my coffee maker to grind the beans and brew the coffee at 5:15am hoping the smell will woo me out of bed. I’m also setting my alarm on my dresser. I did this the first few days, and then…yep, got sick

Exercise for 20 minutes each morning Monday through Friday Again, sickness derailed this. I worked out Monday morning, that’s it.

Work towards having more energy – start by reading Energy Explosion – A 7 Day Guide to Jump Start Your Energy, taking my vitamins every day, and getting seven hours of sleep each night I started Energy Explosion, I took my vitamins every night, but seven hours of sleep? Nope, I was up with my sick daughter three nights in a row.

Feel better soon. Life happens while we are completing goal lists, but then we get back to program the next week. My goal is to adopt out 3cats tomorrow at humane society stand at hardware store. We usually adopt 1 cat/event, so my goal is ambitious and finding good homes is more important than just placing cats. So I’ve been praying a lot about this. Yep, that’s my prep work.

You accomplished quite a bit before you got sick. You should be very proud of yourself.

I pray you are feeling much better.  It’s hard to finish a to do list with sick kids & you not well.

I’m not doing to well on the exercise thing.  Oh, I try but it’s hard to motivate myself that early in the morning.  I’d rather sit at the computer & play games.  Later in the day and closer to bedtime I can feel like running & exercising.

I do walk about 6-10 miles daily.  Each morning I listen to the Bible on my computer through http://www.Biblegateway.com.

Blessings on you as you work on those good & lofty goals–May you feel better soon!

Well you just can’t be expected to do everything when your sick that you would have done when you are well. You are still an inspiration! Focus on how well the earlier days went and that you are blessed with a loving husband who helped you on the other days. God is great and always makes a way. As you start feeling better ease back into the goals. At first just spend extra snuggle/play time with kids and hubby. They are more important than chores. !!! Spending extra time with them the first day or two will pay off in the end.
    Peace be with you!

I can totally relate!  We all have weeks where our best laid plans get derailed!  Be proud of what you were able to get done in spite of unforeseen circumstances and move on to the new week ahead.  I hope you are feeling better soon!

HAHA! Your goals are pretty much mine right now. I’m trying to get up at 6am, have devotions every morning, get my bed made, get dressed before the girls get up, do a load of laundry every day, read more, remember to take my vitamins, and eat healthy….I am doing okay. Just 1 day at a time. It all kind of revolves around having to lose 155 pounds and raise 2 daughters.

I’m so sorry you had a rough week. But there is grace. And thank you for sharing so honestly here. It’s wonderful that we can be real with one another. Praying right now that your house will be full of vibrant, healthy people even this weekend!

      Thank you!

What a productive week for someone who was sick!! And I would say that this goal list is much more realistic than last week’s…you, you first born you!!

      Haha! I can’t help it!

I found when I first started exercising years ago, I kept coming down with mild colds at first but then when I practiced diligence and stuck with it, I started to notice not only did I stop getting nagging colds but I stopped getting sick when the rest of the household got sick. My thinking exercise at first must lower your immune system as its shocked that you are doing it, then over time it strengthens it. But that’s just my theory! Hope your are all better now!

In April, all five of my children got sick.  Alot of sleepless nights.  They never get sick at the same time, right when one is feeling better the another one got sick.  I think it was around 2 whole weeks before everyone was back to normal.   Praying that everything goes back to normal soon.

Oh, that sounds like what usually happens to me! I set a ton of goals, then I usually get sick when I’m trying to be uber productive.

  • Karenleigh14

Oh good I’m not the only one on the planet who hates showering. My hubby and teenager don’t understand because their 2 hour shower is their favorite part of the day. LOL I need to write down some goals for the next week and get myself out of vacation mode. Thanks for the inspiration!!

  • Debbie T

Sarah Mae – don’t forget – these are GOALS!  These are things you aim for – some will have to change depending on how life happens to you.  Some will have to be doggedly worked towards and some will have to be set aside for a later date.  The important parts are:  Setting Goals, Reaching Toward Them.  That’s the part you have to remember.  You WILL hit some.  You WILL miss some.  And you WILL have to reframe them within your daily life.

Okay – I’m only saying this because I TOTALLY get what you are saying and know exactly what you mean!  And I’ve had to learn that the setting and the reaching are the important parts of MY responsibility – the attaining part has much more to do with God’s work in my life…

Blessings to you dear lady and praying you are much less snotty (lol) soon!!!

I love you and your blog.  Apparently, every time I tell my husband about something I read from you, I refer to you as, “Sarah Mae, who I love…” .  :) I’ve never commented before, but I just had to tell you something I recently discovered, in case you hadn’t tried it.  Coconut milk in the coffee.  I have to cut out dairy for awhile (nursing a baby with possible dairy sensitivity), and I reeeallly like it.   It is *so* much better than almond milk in coffee.  I wish we lived close by so that I could drop a container of coconut milk on your front porch.  Thanks for everything you’ve written.  It’s really spoken to me over the past 4 years, since I had my oldest (of 3 girls) and started my life as a stay-at-home mom.   I feel like I could write a book about all of the ways your thoughts and insights have encouraged and taught me.  Thank you, thank you.

I seem to get derailed every week! Ugh! :)

Yep, sickness just throws everything off, doesn’t it?  Something always seems to creep in to derail us when we try to get life organized.  We live in a sin-filled world, that is very evident.

I cut out Coffeemate and now I LOVE black coffee! So worth it! :) But Mochas are definitely my weakness. I don’t like that it is, because they are so expensive, and the fact that I can look at my budget and know that $40 in the coffee/eat out/entertainment category has been spent on mochas? When I have coffee and tea at home? Sigh…..don’t feel good about it.
