Savoring September – Week Two!

“Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.”  -George Eliot

Here in PA the mornings have a comforting chill to them.

By afternoon it’s warm and summery, but the mornings are the first taste that a change is coming. Sweaters will be pulled out from closets, AC’s will be turned off, Salted Caramel Mochas and Pumpkin Spice Lattes are showing up, and jeans will become a regular clothing staple again.

Technically, Autumn doesn’t begin until the 22nd, but you can feel it anyway, can’t you?

Well I’ve got three ideas for you to savor September this week…

1.) If you can swing it, treat yourself to a yummy fall drink. My indulgence of choice is a Salted Caramel Mocha from Starbucks. Not for the faint of heart; it’s full of sugar and calories, but it’s an experience to be had by all.

2.) Plan a “First Day of Fall” (or as my friend Logan calls it, “Happy Fall Ya’ll!”) celebration! This can be just with your family, your kids during the day or after school, or something you invite friends to. The 22nd falls on a Sunday, and that happens to be a day we’re celebrating my daughters birthday, so we’ll have our little fall celebration on Monday the 23rd. I’m going to decorate, get some apple cider, and just have some neighborhood kids and moms over for pie after school.

3.) Get your calendar out and plan some fun fall activities! You probably already have some fall traditional activities that you do each year, but try and find something new as well. Go to your town’s website and check out the calendar to see what fun things are planned for this month. Some of our favorite things to do are:

Go to the fair (and enjoy a pig chasing contest)!

Head to Cherry Crest Farm – an all-day experience of fun and outdoor play!

And a new thing this year? We’ll be checking out the Storytelling Festival!

So friends, what’s on your agenda this week to savor September? I want to know so I get some more ideas!

Love, SM

One of the cities we live near has an annual Apple Festival, and this year our kidsa re 4, 3, 2, and 1 (with one on the way)…so we can bring them all for face painting, taffy apples, hay rides, and lots of fall fun this year!! We also go Pumpkin Hunting so we have our family of pumpkins for our front porch.

  • Mandi in Iowa

We have some great apple orchard/pumpkin patches here in Iowa. We always look forward to taking our two young girls there for a day of fun! And of course there are leaf piles, walks through the leaf decorated streets, etc.

    • Adrienne Reina

I love going to apple orchards and pumplin patches and love the pile of leaves! I love this time!

  • Ali

I love the challenges for this week, they were already on my list to do. LOl… every year we go to an Orchard that has apples/ pumpkins and many other fruits and vegtables. I can’t wait to go this year. I have a few other places we will be heading that we haven’t done yet. Thank you so much for doing this. It has been such a blessing!!

Sweet Sarah, I am really rather shocked to see you supporting Starbuck’s for a two-fold reason: They support the G&L movement so strongly that they could care less to have ‘straight’ customers- this is documented. And they use aborted fetal ‘taste enhancers’ in their products, as does Pepsi and Kraft. This, too, is documented. While I am ALL FOR celebrating every little awesome drop of autumn (fall melts my heart!) I would never recommend ANY product without first doing my research. I do know this, that you truly CARE, and I hope that this is just an oversight by you.

    • Sarah Mae

      Hi Kelly,

Here’s the thing, if you look deeply into any product or business, you will find something worth standing against. For example, do you use a PC? Well, you’re supporting Planned Parenthood. On and on it goes.

I do appreciate your concern, and there are certain things I will avoid if my conscience won’t allow me, but overall, I think I would go mad if I avoided/didn’t buy or support from places that do things I don’t agree with. Hope that helps you understand my position a bit! 🙂

      • Kelly Howard

It is hard to understand that anyone would knowingly consume aborted fetal cell, Sarah Mae! I just can’t bring myself to do it and call myself a true Believer….surely you can see MY point too?!

    • Jane Grayson

Such a shame to see homophobia and prejudice here.

Salted Caramel Mocha is my all-time favorite, but have them use less syrup than usual to cut down on the sugar. I get it all year long I love them so much. In addition, you can buy the bottles of toffee nut syrup (what is in the salted caramel) from them (with the pump!) and add it to your coffee at home. Told you I love them. 🙂

  • Taylor

I just got an email but no link to watch? I don’t understand. I just verified my email address and am in discus but don’t know what now?

  • Taylor

I’m really bummed out I’m missing the class right now because I can’t figure out how to see it…I got the email, verified my address, and that’s it.

  • Jean

Love the fall craft festivals….there is usually at least one to go to every weekend, and I bought a hanging basket of mums to place outside and will probably buy a pumpkin for the porch, all because or you Sara Mae! 🙂 I’m from PA too and you sure hit it on the head…there’s dew on the ground, the crickets chirp ALL day long, and the air is so refreshing. My favorite time of the year.

  • Taylor

well, i missed it. I stayed on the computer all night trying to get to the webinar and never made it on . i signed on to disqus and had a few emails from emily but never an answer. i’m sad and frustrated. i hope i can get it straightened out before tomorrow. Please help me!

    • Sarah Mae

I just emailed your email to Emily – we’ll get this straightened out!

  • Dena

Our family always goes to the local orchard and picks pearapples. Fun and yummy. And then we have bags of them to eat and are not in a country where we are able to can them but it’s super fun anyway.

  • momteaches2

I treated myself to a Salted Caramel Mocha Frap not once – but twice this week!

  • stephanluiz

Recently I was REALLY low on cash and debts were eating me from all sides! That was UNTIL I decided to make money on the internet! I went to surveymoneymaker dot net, and started filling in surveys for cash, and surely I’ve been far more able to pay my bills!! I’m so glad, I did this!!! With all the financial stress these years, I really hope all of you will give it a chance. – v3fk
