My favorite tradition is one my family started as a child. We attend Christmas Eve service together as a family, come home and have appetizers and sparkling cider as our dinner and open up one present. It’s always a special family time. And even though my family lives so far apart, I love continuing this tradition with my own children knowing across the globe somewhere my family is doing the same.

  • Brittany

I love Christmas and I am looking forward to having my 4yr old and 3 yr old a bit more involved this year! :) And I have always wanted a Williw Tree nativity, but could never justify the cost!

  • Christina

Love everything about Christmas but I love time with family the most at this time of the year. My favorite tradition is decorating Christmas cookies together on Christmas eve followed by eating them while reading the Christmas story.

  • Maura

I have always wanted this Nativity set! Thank you!

  • Amy

I enjoy reading from Luke as a soon as we wake up so we remember the reason we celebrate Christmas.

  • janetb1

My favorite tradition is to decorate over the weekend after we celebrate Thanksgiving, while the kids are still home from college. We play Christmas carols, sip eggnog, be together. Thanks for the giveaway Sarah!

We don’t really have one tradition we do every year, but our family is pretty close, so we just enjoy being with each other , regardless of whose house we meet at, or what actual day we get together (which varies since we have several out of town). Love celebrating Jesus with family. :)

  • Gigi

The past few years we’ve gone to choose our tree from the farm up the road… because where we live now we can actually do that! We also have Christmas eve food traditions (queso and chips, hot spiced cider), and a certain CD we listen to on Christmas morning (Steve Sensenig’s Christmas piano one).

  • carol

I love passing on the tradition of doing a Jesse Tree with our Advent each year to the grandkids. Its a lot of work to get together 3 of each for each home every year and as soon as I hear one of the grandkids tell me something new they learned that year it is so worth it:) The Nativity would find a home in one of those homes where it would be loved and talked about for many years to come.

  • Jessica

I love singing carols around the tree.

  • Amanda Gay

I love simply being with family! We always get together and eat and just enjoy each other’s company!

I love this idea for children. It helps them count down to Christmas, but also learn the true meaning of the holiday. I believe that young children have lost the true meaning with all the advertising and “Happy Holidays” crap out there. It is time we as Christians stood up and re told the story of why there is a Christmas.
One of my favorite new songs is “It’s Called Christmas with a Capital C by Go Fish.

They are 5, 4, and 2 right now, so this tradition might get modified over the years but for now, I love the delight they have in buying each other gifts!

New jammies and a movie on Christmas Eve before bed!

  • Kimberly Stratton

My favorite tradition has been putting up the Christmas tree with the kids. Last year we didn’t put up a Christmas tree because we had a very curious 16 month old and didn’t want risk both cuts and broken cherished ornaments. This fall my fiancé lost his job. While he quickly found another, it pays less than half of what he used to make. I’m heartbroken at the thought of not being able to get a tree this year again. We’ll have a lovely Christmas, of course, but no tree is kind of the icing on the cake in this very difficult season for us. It’s just gotten harder and harder to keep our chins up. :/

  • Ashley Byer

We love going to the Lights of Christmas display every year.

    Love your blog! Great giveaway.

  • Charlotte

My favorite tradition is walking around caroling with my family and any friends who want to join us. We walk through the neighborhood singing as loudly as we can. Most people don’t hear us and we walk by many homes that never know we were there. But the times that someone shows up outside, we stop and serenade the unsuspecting soul. It’s great fun, and brings joy and worship to the neighborhood.

  • Crystelle Carrick

My favorite tradition is exchanging one gift to open on Christmas eve.

  • Teresa Manucy

My favorite Christmas tradition is centered around Christmas eve. Dressing up, going to church, eating a traditional Icelandic smoked lamb, rutabagas, potatoes in white sauce, and peas. Then each family member opening only one gift from under the tree. It was such a special time for me as a child, even the luminaries were a visual reminder of Christ’s birth.

  • Beth Starr

I have so many-reading the Christmas story, singing carols, eating Chicken & Sausage Gumbo, opening gifts on Christmas Eve…

  • Janelle Hancock

My favorites are the Christmas Eve traditions my family began years ago! • Sarah Pabody

Caroling with kids to friends who long for family. :)

  • purplesquirrel90

Oh, I don’t know~ so many favorites~ but I’d have to say that one of them is celebrating the 12 Days of Christmas, ending on Jan 6. The kids don’t have the crazy “flurry” of present-opening, and we extend the “conversation of Christmas” beyond the 25th.

  • http://www.bumblebeegrace.blogspot.com/ Melissa Ann

The girls unwrapping one piece of the manger set every few days of advent. Right now it’s the Fisher Price one… one day maybe a more pretty one :)

Our family reads the Christmas story on Christmas morning before opening presents. We also take a family picture by our Christmas tree while we are all still wearing our pjs. It has been a neat memory to have.

  • Crystal Blomgren

Our Christmas Eve together of just us as the family, having oyster soup and red velvet cake for dinner, reading the Christmas story with hot chocolate and sending the girls to bed late so hopefully they aren’t up way too early on Christmas morning. Though, that last one typically backfires for some reason…

  • Tami Montgomery

My favorite Christmas ‘tradition’ isn’t so much a tradition, but it’s special to me. It is when we don’t travel for the holiday… so I spend Christmas morning together with my husband and our two daughters, sitting in front of the fireplace. Opening gifts, having fun, listening to Christmas music, all the while thanking God for all of his blessings. It’s even better when it’s snowing on Christmas morning…which doesn’t always happen, so it’s an extra-special treat. :)

  • Tanya W

    We love celebrating Advent :-)

  • cj

I have for many years now celebrated Advent with a wreath and candles on our table. The practice goes back to my early days and time in the local Methodist Church which is also where my husband and I were married and that will be 43 years in January 2014. As evening comes the lighting of the candles reminds me of why we celebrate Christmas and it calms me and slows me down in the busyness of the holiday season to think on Who is truly the reason for this special season of celebration. Rejoice! Rejoice! Immanuel ~ God is with us!

Our favorite family tradition is that we pick a family member’s name from a hat then you get to buy that persons stocking stuffers gifts. i think my favorite Christmas tradition currently involves our “Names of Jesus” tree. We have 25 ornaments along with a Scripture page listing for each. We read the bit and then hang the ornament. It is one of many Advent calendars I have collected over the years, but this brings Jesus straight to our minds and hearts in the midst of the season.

  • Leah

We have several but one of my favorites is reading the story of Jesus’ birth in Luke with a cup of hot chocolate right after we decorate for Christmas and again before opening presents. One of my favourite traditions is picking up the tree on Dec 1st. It’s the kick off of christmas music and decorating, and snuggling near the lights and reading great Christmas books…but I also love making cinnamon buns to hand to our neighbours with an invite to our church program tucked in…and ok, I can’t forget our cheese fondue followed by chocolate fondue followed by a christmas movie tradition either….
