Hi, I'm Sarah.

31 Days to Clean, Day 1: Begin the Kitchen!

31kitchenbefore

Don’t judge!

I know. I KNOW. It’s bad. But hello, that’s why I’m doing 31 Days to Clean!

31beforekitchen2

Today is “Begin the Kitchen” day!

Let’s Do This!

Here’s what I’m doing, join in if you’d like!

First up, put in a load of laundry.

After the laundry is started, begin cleaning the kitchen. Focus on the basics:

  • Do the dishes (HOLLA if you have a dishwasher and praise the Lord for it)
  • Also the pans (yes, even the greasy piled up ones you haven’t wanted to touch)
  • Wash out the sink (If you have bleach, plug your sink and fill it with bleach and water and let sit for about a 1⁄2 hour.)
  • Gather all the paperwork and stuff on your counters and put it in a bin or a bag and set it aside, you’ll deal with this on another day!
  • Wipe down the counters.
  • Eat a cookie.

We’ll work more on the kitchen tomorrow!

After pics to come and my “Why” for cleaning will be up later today (I’ll update this post). Stay tuned! OH, and if you want to have your ePantry cleaning products to you by the end of the week, ORDER TODAY!

After Pics!

Because my kitchen was clean, I felt freed up to cook! Pork butt. YUM.

Are you drooling? It smells SO good in my house right now.

Ahhhh! And then, I had a brownie. 🙂

Tomorrow, FRIDGE AND MICROWAVE!

The Online Friends Who Clean Together, Stay Together

Or something like that.

I’m so excited about this! I first found you when searching for help with my house on Amazon. I bought this book and Frumps to Pumps. After following you for a while, you inspired me to write. I’m forever thankful to you on many levels.
I have a question about the revised edition. It looked like I had it in my kindle library but when I downloaded it to the kindle app, it still has the 2011 date inside. Is there a way to know if my copy is now the revised edition? Maybe you could tell me one of the changes I could look up. Thanks so much for all you do! I’m looking forward to cleaning house with you :).

Great to meet you, Candace! 🙂 I love how you found me and the book, and that’s great to hear that you’re writing!
As for the revised, it will say”Revised Edition” under my name on the front page (right after the cover page). Let me know!

      • http://candacecreates.com/ Candace Creates

Thanks for your quick response! It’s great to meet you too :). It doesn’t say Revised Edition. I tried deleting it from my app and reloading from the cloud, but it didn’t change anything. Usually when I go into “manage digital content” in Amazon, there will be a button to the right that says updated content. 31 days did not have that. If I click on the more button to the left of the book title (in manage digital content area), it shows your revised cover. When I click send to device, it still sends the old version, without the revised edition tag under your name as you stated above. Sorry this is so long and possibly confusing. I’m hoping to help in case anyone else is having the same problem. Let me know if I should contact Amazon for help. I just wanted to make you aware of it too. I’m thrilled about getting started again on this book. I think I’m going to go through Frumps to Pumps again after it :). I’ve regressed in that area lately as well…

Thanks so much for your help! I sent you an email. Your kitchen looks beautiful!! It’s really true how free we are to cook when the previous dishes are done. I’m already behind, but that pile of my dishes will be conquered this morning :).

  • Kerry Ann

This sounds wonderful! I love Method cleaners!!! Having beautiful scents makes it easier to clean (at least for me!!)

      Me too, girl, me too!

About two years ago we added a 4th baby to our family and moved to a house that doubled in size and also has an upstairs so I quickly became overwhelmed with cleaning! The ‘deep cleaning’ is what gets neglected, at least until we host a birthday party and are forced to tackle it:) I am excited about having a solid routine to keep me in check and to not have this lingering in the back of my mind all the time. Thank you for sharing with us and I’m crossing my fingers to win this fabulous giveaway!

I’m so excited to start this! Thank you for being so open and honest! All of your books and posts really touch my heart! I’ve written a lot about them, lol.. http://duncanpartyofsix.blogspot.com/ stop by if you ever get a chance, I know you’re a busy lady! Again, thank you, for all that you do! You’ve inspired me!

  • Jacqui

Looking at pictures of your kitchen made me feel so normal! My kitchen looks like that a lot and I always feel guilt about it. So seeing someone else’s kitchen look that way makes me feel much better!!

  • Cori LePard

Great cleaning products, yummy candles and your humor, = I’m looking forward to cleaning. This is unheard of.

  • Chelsea

Would love to win this!! I’m so behind on bathrooms!

Hello Sarah! I just purchased the revised version of your book and I am ready to do this with you!! Cleaning has always been a difficult balance for me! I live in the Lancaster area too with my husband and four children. I also work part time as a counselor. It has always been a deep desire of mine to work with women and help them by being genuine and trusting God’s leading. I truly appreciate that about you!! I recently began blogging – still working on that balance as well! 🙂

Thank you for blessing me and so many others with your writing! Last year I spoke at a MOPS group and used things from your book Desperate, encouraging them to all get it. It has been so helpful! Well off to clean my kitchen…it’s a late start today, but it will get done 🙂

  • Maria

Hi- I bought the kindle version and shared your post with our MOPS group. One of our members purchased the .pdf version and never received it.. what should she do?

    • http://www.likeawarmcupofcoffee.com Sarah Mae

Eek! Have her email me at sarahmaewrites (at) gmail.com!

  • http://christinslade.com/ Christin

I just love seeing your blog awaken again (though I totally get your absence!)

    • http://www.likeawarmcupofcoffee.com Sarah Mae

It feels SO good to be back, but I NEEDED that year away.

  • http://www.branceandlauren.com/ Lauren Gillihan

Hi Sarah! I am excited to get started on the kitchen today, although I am LAMENTING the fact we don’t have a dishwasher, ha. In Cleaning is Healthy and A Cleaning Challenge, I encourage readers at my blog, It’s a Wonderful Life, to join in on the fun.

    • http://www.likeawarmcupofcoffee.com Sarah Mae

I would be lamenting as well. But KEEP ON GIRL!

  • Erin

Ordered your book, laundry in the washing machine getting clean, now I’ll tackle the dishes. Thank you for the motivation!

    • http://www.likeawarmcupofcoffee.com Sarah Mae

      Go girl!

  • Daphne Close

Exactly what Erin said! Can I just read the older version? I glanced at it, but never actually did it. And to be honest, I may not even read the e-book because I’m trying to focus on “Own Your Life.” Regardless, your blog will be the motivation!!!!!!! I am ridiculously giddy to hear that I’m not the only messy mom in the world. Sometimes I feel like all other homeschoolers are naturally clean…and then there’s me. BTW, your dining table in the background is REALLY clean; are you sure you’re messy? (=

    • http://www.likeawarmcupofcoffee.com Sarah Mae

Yes, but I completely changed the Martha challenges, updated several readings, and added some new content. I also rearranged the days so they were in a more logical flow.
Also, my dining room gets SO messy. It was just a good moment. 🙂

  • SaraR

Ok. So I totally wasn’t going to do this but now I totally am. I’m dusting off my copy of 31 Day’s to Clean, pretty sure I never even opened the file, and getting to it. I think my kitchen was clean yesterday but it’s back to a sorry state so no better place to start. We’ve had a stomach bug and that’s motivating me to give everything a really good clean. That and I think the constant disorder is stressing me more than I realize. External motivation can be a good thing and it’ll be nice to have others to follow along with.
Also, if you have not tried the ePantry candles you must! The French Pear one is my favorite. I decided to become a VIP member just so I could get the candles!

    • http://www.likeawarmcupofcoffee.com Sarah Mae

I am SO glad you told me about the candles! I absolutely will try that one! Thank you! Also, just a note, the Martha challenges are COMPLETELY different than the original, and there are some other changes as well (more content, updated, etc.). Do you have the Kindle version? If you do, it should automatically update it for you.

This was just a great reminder to get things rebooted. That’s how I’m using your book. I get really side tracked and it’s not until evening that I get in there and tidy the kitchen. So thanks for Day 1 🙂

The area I struggle most with cleaning is my basement, it is a bit of a tug of war, because my husband doesn’t have a shop, and so enjoys keeping everything from bags of cement, chainsaws, and tools, guess where? In the basement!!

  • Lezlie Ellis

Day 1 COMPLETE – I work outside the home full-time and then had a meeting this evening. Got home at 8:30 pm. Put in the laundry and then tackled the kitchen. My husband helped me which was a tremendous help. He took care of the dishes and I took care of the clutter. My sinks are shining!

  • http://www.homemakingorganized.com KimQuinn

    You go Sarah! Looks beeoootiful!

  • Brandy Hearn

I’m so excited about the timing of this! I started reading the original version the day you started the challenge. 🙂 I’m having the same problem with my kindle version of the book…I can’t get the updated version to show on any of my devices. Any suggestions?

    • Evangelita Brown

I had to call amazon and they updated it for me.

      • Brandy Hearn

  • SL

  • Rachel Torcasso

thank you so much for this “nudge”. i’ve been stuck in a rut after our first baby came along and i’ve been staying at home. so hard to go from working outside the home, to having the home be your home and workplace. i’m not a natural “cleaner” either, but desire to be! i am going through your ebook as well and really appreciate your insights that are so full of grace all at the same time. posting here to be accountable! kitchen – done!

  • stephanieD.

I love this challenge and I love that you are so REAL! I especially love the before and after pictures. I have been dealing with some serious family drama for nearly a week and not only did you get me motivated, you made me smile. Thanks for sharing! Now I’m off to start day 1!!!!
