Day 12 – Begin the Bedrooms! #31DaysToClean

IMG_6020

Sweet Care's night stand

Today on the docket we begin...BEDROOMS! Again, this is another one of those challenges that is tricky because of how many bedrooms one might have. We have four bedrooms in my home, three for the babes and one for my husband and I. We are going to split bedrooms into seven days days of clean-up (which includes closets). If you need more time than that, plan accordingly (a weekend cleaning day, perhaps?). If you need less time, use the days off to bake. Obviously. I'm beginning with my youngest child's room. I'm not going to post pictures of their bedrooms online because that just creeps me out, but I'll post little up close snapshots. Here’s the plan: Tackle the kids bedrooms first, enlisting their help or having them do it if they’re old enough.
  • Put all the dirty clothes into a laundry basket and all the clean clothes (why are there clean clothes on the floor?!) on the bed
  • Put all toys and books and junk on the bed
  • Pick up all the trash and throw it out! You should now have nothing on the floor
  • Pull things off any unordered, disheveled shelves and off the top of dressers
  • Clean the shelves and surfaces
  • Put the clean clothes away
  • Put the books away
  • Put the toys or other things away
  • If you or your child has a desk, go ahead and get that cleaned up (if they have a desk that is messy, they are probably old enough to clean it by themselves)
  • Vacuum or sweep the floor
*Do not wash the bedding yet because I don’t want you to get burned out. We’ll save the bedding for another day.
  • Bonus Tip! Have your child go through their toys and pick only 20 things to keep (Legos count as one thing). Seriously. I promise you and your child’s sanity will thank me. Also, your child will be less overwhelmed when it comes to keeping their bedroom clean.Less stuff equals less work, less stress, and more order!

To get this sweet deal, all you have to do is give ePantry a try by signing up for an account and getting started with your first $20 order. You can read my top 5 reasons for using them HERE.

Day 11 – Sweep and Wash the Living Room Floors!

Yes, I'm behind a bit with 31 Days to Clean, but that's okay! Every day I get to begin again! :)

I finished up the bookshelves yesterday (see the AFTER pics HERE), and then had CAKE! Yep, I celebrated my 35th birthday with my favorite people in the world...

Day 10 – Organize the Living Room Bookshelves! I LOVE This Job!

Today we are cleaning off and organizing the living room bookshelves! I LOVE organizing my bookshelves!

bookshelfclose

What you don't see here is that there are random puzzle pieces strewn on this shelf. Also, the basket is a mess of things!

bookshelf2

The books don't look too bad, but again, the baskets are a mess inside! I'm going to get my organize on! WOOT!

Here’s the plan:
  • Get a big box or trash bag on hand for books you are going to giveaway
  • Take all the books off your shelf and begin to sort, putting giveaway books directly into the box or bag
  • Dust your shelves
  • Place the books back on the shelves
  • Clean out anything else that needs cleaned on your shelves (like the baskets)

Day 9 – FINALLY! We Begin the Living Room! (Goodbye Christmas Tree!)

Okay, I AM ALL CAUGHT UP! Praise the Lord. How are you holding up? Need a catch-up day? DO IT. Also, did you enter the Mary & Martha $200 giveaway yet? You can do that here. :) FINALLY, we move into the living room. My living room NEEDS help.

First, the Christmas tree must go. After that, here's the plan:
  • Pick up anything that doesn’t belong in the living room and get it out of there. If it’s the kids things, have them put it away. Make sure nothing is on the floor that shouldn’t be on the floor. This goes for couches and chairs as well.
  • Fluff up and put your pillows or blankets on your chairs and couches. Isn’t that pretty?
  • Now begin working on one area at a time. Perhaps you have a mantel or a piano or a space for toys. Pick one and completely get it cleaned and organized before moving onto the next one. To do this, remove everything from the surface and dust, sort items, and re-decorate/organize.
Do everything but the bookshelves and the floor washing (if you have wood floors). We’ll begin that tomorrow!

Day 8 – Second Bathroom Closet (And a Poo Story)

Today we are organizing the second bathroom closet! Or in my case, playing catch-up. Because... I spent the afternoon into the evening at the ER. With my son. Who was SCREAMING in pain and begging me to get him a doctor, so I finally took him to the ER because I had no idea what was going on. He kept saying it felt like a needle was pushing into his stomach. The pain was on his left, not right side, so I was pretty certain it wasn't appendicitis, but my doctor told me to take him to the ER just in case. The poor kid was in so much pain. We get there, check in, a nurse talks to him a bit, then we wait and wait and wait (you know how it is). Finally a doc comes in and tells us they're going to X-ray him. We get X-rays. $1000 later (I'm guessing but hoping not), the cause is revealed... Poop. My son had so much poop sitting in his intestines. You can imagine the delight of my son when he found this out. He thought it was so cool. We even got to take home the X-ray so he could show his friends. The long story short, if your child is screaming because of a pain in the lower left side of their tummy, get them some juice and load up on fiber and they'll be just fine.

The kid is alright.

(He wanted me to tell you that.)

All to say, I did not clean the bathroom yesterday. Today, I will get it clean. Fortunately, I don't have a second bathroom closet, just a nook, and it's not so bad. Whew!

Here's to a, Lord willing, productive day! :)
