Day 28 – Organize Something in the Kitchen! #31DaysToClean

kitchendrawer

Today pick something in the kitchen to organize! Do you have a drawer in your kitchen that is what some might call the “junk” drawer? Or a cabinet you've been wanting to organize? That is what we’re cleaning today. The plan:
  • Pull everything thing out of the drawer (s) and/or cabinet you want to clean and organize. Go nuts!
  • If you find Christmas cards, throw them away unless they really mean something to you and you must keep them. If you keep them, designate a box for all Christmas for all time. Label the box, “Christmas cards.”
  • As you’re cleaning, have a bag or a bin for all paperwork you’re not sure what to do with it. You can go through that later. For now, the goal is to clean and organize what you do want/need in the kitchen.

I kept special picture cards and put them in my memory box. All the pencils and pens and random other school-ish supplies I put with our school stuff. But mostly...

I purged!

kitchendrawerafter

Oh yes I did. Ever since the great book purge of 2015 (and of ever) I am LOVING getting rid of things!

Day 27 – Clean Your Car Before Spring! #31DaysToClean
This is Distance...

car1

Oh sweet Distance. Yes, that's her name. She has gone the distance for me several times when I was on empty and needed to make it to a gas station.

car4

Yes, that is my child's name CARVED WITH A ROCK INTO THE SIDE OF DISTANCE. If she's still running by the time Ella is 16, this van is hers because obviously she's named it and claimed it.

car3

This is a snapshot of the mess. Ew. I will be pay the kids to clean her out. :) Kids FTW!

Today, we move on to...the car. That’s right, you heard me correctly. Whether it’s freezing outside or warm and sunny, if your car is a mess let’s get it clean. Remember, I’m doing this with you! I’ve got a van with toys and fast-food wrappers (don’t judge, I’m working on this), and Lord knows what else! Here’s the plan:
  • Get two big trash bags, one for trash and one for all the other items that need to come in the house! Start sorting!
  • If it’s warm enough, take the time to vacuum out your car. If it’s freezing outside, forget this!
  • Once you’ve cleaned out your vehicle, go inside and sort through all the things in the stuff trash bag.Get the Kids Involved! If the kids have stuff in the car or they helped make the mess, get them out there to help clean up! It’s especially useful because kids have little bodies and little hands and can get in the back seats and down low and get underneath the seats. So helpful!

Yep, I paid my kids to clean out the van. And then...

I paid $8 to get the interior cleaned out! Best $8 spent EVER! Three dudes scrubbed and vacuumed it! YES!

Day 25 – Your Desk (or paperwork area)! #31DaysToClean

IMG_6033

Why yes that is a coffee maker on my desk. Brilliant, no?

Today we are cleaning your desk or paperwork area. Get all the papers out of your desk and begin to sort! Throw things away, and make piles for what needs to go where. This is a good time to re-evaluate your paperwork system. Do you need bins or folders or other kinds of storage? If you find that you have drawings and notes from your kids or friends and family, consider using a plastic bin with a lid or a separate folder in your filing cabinet to keep those special things safe (memories)!

Day 24 – The Entry Way! #31DaysToClean

IMG_6440

This is our entry way and it's ALWAYS  a mess. With three kids and playing in the snow, it gets crazy every day. Usually there are snow pants, hats and gloves all over the floor as well!

Today we are cleaning the entryway into our homes. Here’s the plan:
  • Get all the shoes, trash, junk and whatever else you have scattered in your entry way and put it away. Set aside one pair of shoes per person to put back after you’ve cleaned.
  • Now sweep up the area and wash or vacuum it. Put the shoes back nicely lined up.
  • If you have a coat rack, tidy that up as well, only keeping what you need.
  • Mail and keys area? Yep, take care of that to!
